The world was alight, bathed in oranges, reds, and flashes of white. The colors swirled together as seen through water. Ull thought the sight beautiful. Dark red floated up, blood his mind provided, to mix with the stunning array before him. Bubbles danced before him adding to the serenity that was his last moments.

Ull sank father into the depths, water rushed down his throat but Ull was too mesmerized to care. Something blocked the stunning array above, something large. A shark?

Hands gripped his arms from behind and the world of melting color became farther away. Soon Ull found himself on something firm yet yielding. Booming sounds of cannon fire echoed in the distance.

Ull coughed producing water. Lips met his and air forced its way into his chest. He coughed again, this time nearly dispelling all foreign liquids. Fire raced down his leg only to shoot back up to settle in his lower back. Ull groaned.

Something slimy touched his exposed leg. Ull was in too much pain to care. Warmth spread from that touch. It was an abnormal heat, almost too hot, but it numbed the pain in his leg considerably.

After what seemed an eternity and a moment wrapped together the heat and that touch disappeared. Ull rolled onto his back and blinked the night sky into focus. His head lulled to the side and he blinked again. A naked man sat on the beach with him. Least half a naked man, the other half was that of a fish. A merman?

“You saved me.” He said to the creature.

The creature looked at him quizzically like a dog. “I did.” His words were distorted as if he was speaking through something thick.

Ull relaxed down into the sand with a sigh. “Thank you.” His vision blurred distorting the exotic man until there was nothing but darkness.
