Million Miles #AtoZChallenge
“In another one hundred feet it’ll be one million miles, can you believe it?” Mercer stopped and just reveled in the moment. His partner, Marker, stood next to him and took a deep breath.
“I don’t think anyone ever believed it, Mercer. I certainly didn’t.”
“Neither did I.” He looped his arm around Marker’s shoulders and pulled the man into a side hug. “Do you think if we stopped here for the night all those people would be pissed off?” He gestured to the crowd waiting for them and the helicopter above. The first pair to walk a million miles around the United States was a big deal, apparently. Mercer didn’t think it was. For him it was a personal goal, an achievement, he never thought he could do.
“I think,” Marker returned his side hug and laughed, “I think they’d kill us.”
Mercer smiled as he looked at Marker. They set out on this journey what seemed a lifetime ago together. People said they wouldn’t last and sometimes he felt they wouldn’t either but there was always Marker. He was the positive one and without him he couldn’t have done this.
“You wanna kiss me.” Marker said with a smile.
He smiled and looked from Marker to the one millionth mile line. “Here or there?”
Marker took a step froward, dragging him along. “Get ready to pucker up, sweetheart.”
He could do that especially if it meant shocking the media with them starting this journey as straight and ending it gay. Maybe he was bisexual but at this point it didn’t matter because all he wanted was Marker.
