Back Brace #AtoZChallenge
Ben walked into Bradley’s room precariously balancing a serving tray. He wasn’t the most coordinated person in the world and he prayed he didn’t trip on anything. Somehow, don’t ask how, he made it to the bed and set the tray at the very end.
Bradley was asleep, no doubt out from a pain pill. Ben remembered when he got the call three weeks ago and learned Bradley had fallen off the roof and broke his back. At first he thought Bradley was being stupid but he found out later Bradley was trying to get his neighbors cat.
Ben sighed and bent down to give Bradley a small kiss. “Wake up sleepy head.”
“Mmmmm.” Bradley blinked awake and rubbed an eye. “Hey.”
He smiled and swallowed his emotion. They may be high school juniors but he loved Bradley with everything he had. “I brought you some lunch.”
“Oh you didn’t have to.” Bradley eased himself up with Ben’s help.
Ben fluffed and placed pillows around Bradley. “Nonsense.” He gave Bradley his lunch then went on the other side of the bed with his own. He turned on the TV and got comfortable.
Bradley took his hand. “Thank you.”
He grinned and kissed the back of Bradley’s hand. A bruise from the IV still darkened his skin. “Anything for you.”
Bradley nodded and ate a chip. “You don’t have to stay here with me. It’s our last summer, sort of. You should be out having fun.”
Ben kissed Bradley. “I’m right where I want to be.”

I hope this one will be a full book.
It probably won’t, sorry! 😦
D’awwww you ended with such cheese. =P

Dawwwww. You going soft on us? XD
I can be soft and sweet sometimes. Ask my me. ;D
Oh, I believe it. XD
Awww. What a sweet excerpt. 🙂
From a larger work?
Thank you!
No, it’s not. All my A to Z Challenge posts are “ficlets” as my friend puts it. Just tiny short stories. Sorry to disappoint!
That is a shame, but the idea of ficlets is really attractive, and just the sort of thing that suits this challenge. 🙂
I’ll be back again tomorrow for the next one!
I do them every year and some have stood out and become books on the WIP list. This post may very well make it there. You never know.
Excellent! Can’t wait to hear what you think.
Aw from trying to save the kitty. I adore him already 🙂
Happy A to Z-ing!
